film review : Love, Rosie
i'm so excited to talk about this movie because it's my favourite EVER!!! i actually bought it on youtube on my birthday last year because I was tired of not finding it on any streaming platform (maybe you don't know it yet, i'm a huge defender of physical media so i plan to buy a dvd player and buy all of my favourite movies).
when I tell you that it's my favourite movie, I really don't play about it, I don't even know how many times I've watched it and I know EVERY SINGLE LINE, WITH THE BRITISH ACCENT !!
synopsis: Rosie and Alex have been best friends since they were 5, so they couldn't possibly be right for each other--or could they? When it comes to love, life and making the right choices, these two are their own worst enemies.
if you read my review on People We Meet on Vacation, you already know that I am a huge fan of friends to lovers and miscommunication tropes. maybe it's because I've experienced them myself π«£ but you know that in movies, it's way better. let's deep-dive into it !
❤︎ the pacing and the years passing: what gets me every single time with this movie is the amount of bad timing. they miss each other by literal minutes, letters and years. watching them grow up, make mistakes and navigate life while still holding that invisible bond between them makes the payoff so worth it.
"we just keep missing each other, maybe we're just not meant to be" - Rosie Dunne

❤︎ my favourite scenes and the soundtrack: i absolutely love the soundtrack of this film, and one of my favourites scenes is the one where we hear the song "fuck you" by lily allen. one of my other favourite scenes is the moment rosie comes to boston and when Alex writes her a letter.
"you deserve someone who loves you with every single beat of his heart" - Alex Stuart
❤︎ the chemistry: Lily Collins and Sam Claflin literally carried this movie. their chemistry feels so effortless, genuine, and raw. you can truly feel their friendship through the screen before even seeing the romantic tension build up.
❤︎ i need ruby as my best friend: can we talk about ruby for a second? she is literally the comedy backbone of this entire movie. her dry delivery, her unfiltered one-liners, and the way she roasts rosie back into reality whenever she’s about to make a questionable life decision... absolute gold. we all need a best friend who can deliver harsh truths while making us wheeze with laughter.
"It is so great having you as a friend. I mean, every time something goes wrong in my life, all I've got to do is look at yours and it puts everything into perspective." - Ruby
i could add a lot of things about this film like the camera work, the lights, the actor's performances but it's gonna be to long. anyway, if you're looking for a film that will make you laugh out loud, scream at your screen, and cry happy tears all in 90 minutes, put this on tonight, it will be 100% worth it.
my rating: 1000000000 ⭐️
let me know in the comments what is your ultimate confort film!!
