album review: Icon by Brent Faiyaz
i want to make my first album review about an album that has been with me since the beginning of the year

tracks on my rotation
here are the tracks that immediately stole my heart and are living rent-free in my playlists:
★ butterflies. : the first part of the track just instantly puts me at ease, and the lyrics capture that exact universal feeling of falling for someone when everything is still unsaid. it perfectly translates that ambiguous stage between two people : the unspoken tension, the excitement, and that quiet anxiety of asking yourself "or should i chill?" before knowing if the feelings are mutual.
★ vanilla sky. : this song brings such a deep, existential layer to the whole record. asking whether a feeling is "short term or for life" or whether it's "a safe space to lead with honesty" perfectly captures that hesitation of wanting to be real with someone, without knowing if it's actually safe to drop your guard and show that side of yourself.
★ other side. : other side is pure nostalgia. what makes this track special is that classic old-school R&B vibe that immediately pulls you in the smooth melodies, the dreamlike atmosphere, and those hopeless romantic lyrics about seeing someone in your dreams ("you must be from the other side, cause i saw you in my dreams last night"). it just creates that effortless, warm soundscape that makes you want to hit replay.
